About

Mark

As a second generation Thoroughbred horse trainer, I have been on the backside of the racetrack since I can remember. I grew up on a farm in Washington State where I learned discipline and hard work. I now reside near Santa Anita with my wife, Dena and our three children; Ryan, Luke and Madison.

My career started in 1994 in Washington state. At the conclusion of the Inaugural meet at Emerald Downs in 1996, I moved to the Bay area. In 2000 I got an opportunity to move to the Southern California circuit. I have been fortunate to train for some of the very best owners in the sport which has been very influential in growing the size and quality of my stable. Nationally, I have finished in the top 50 in purse earnings seven of the last nine years.

As a Director, I hope to bring a fresh perspective from the backside of our circuit. California racing has a lot to offer, but it is paramount for the industry to develop solutions that will increase purse accounts. In my opinion, increased purses will increase field size which translates to bigger wagering handle. We all have seen far too many racetrack closures the last several years. I feel there is a disconnect within the different groups in the racing industry. I will strive to bring everyone together. All of the stakeholders should have the same goal and that is to see racing flourish for future generations.
