Golden Gate management has notified the TOC that there have been a substantial number of COVID-19 positives confirmed in the past 24 hours on the Golden Gate Fields backstretch. These confirmed cases are a result of mandatory testing of all backstretch workers that was required by local public health officials. Golden Gate management believes the vast majority of individuals testing positive are asymptomatic.
Ongoing discussions with local government and health officials are focusing on where to quarantine workers with positive tests. It is still undecided whether persons testing positive will be asked to leave the track or be quarantined in a segregated area at Golden Gate Fields. We are currently working and with Golden Gate to ensure that there will be sufficient personnel on the backstretch to care for the horses stabled there. This situation is fluid, but based on the facts we know right now, we recommend that you talk to your trainers to determine whether they have sufficient employees or would like you to find an alternate location to send your horses.
Golden Gate Fields has confirmed there will be no live racing at that track for at least the next two weeks. As it turned out during the last stoppage, our decision to leave horses in training at Golden Gate was a good one because we had horses race ready when the track reopened. We will keep you updated as pertinent information becomes available.
