I have raced in California for over 45 years. In 2004 I bought acreage in Santa Ynez to breed and race Cal-breds to take advantage of the bonus programs for stallions, broodmares and racehorses. Since then our farm has produced over 60 stakes wins including 9 graded stakes wins and 4 California champions. Our homebred stallion, Grazen, has led California sires the last three years in total progeny earnings, turf earnings and average earning index (AEI). His total earnings recently passed 27 million.
I joined the board in 2013 and served as Chairman from 2017-2021. The TOC has a wide range of goals being involved in all aspects of California racing, but our two main goals are to maximize purses at California tracks and ensure the long-term stability and growth of racing in our state to give California owners the best possible chance to succeed. Bigger purses and a secure future encourage owners to buy and breed better horses. I’m proud to say the TOC board and staff work tirelessly toward those goals.
