Congratulations to California connections, who finished strongly in the National Leading Owner, Trainer and Runner categories for 2016!
Breeders’ Cup Classic and Travers Stakes winner Arrogate, owned by Juddmonte Farms and trained by Bob Baffert, led all Thoroughbreds in North America with earnings of $4,084,600. When including the results of the Dubai World Cup card at Meydan Racecourse on March 26, California Chrome, owned by California Chrome LLC and trained by Art Sherman, was the leading earner with earnings of $8,090,000. California Chrome is also the sport’s all-time leading earner with total earnings of $14,502,650, including Dubai World Cup earnings.
Completing the list of top 10 horses by North American earnings were Nyquist, owned by Reddam Racing and trained by Doug O’Neill, with $3,575,600 in earnings, Exaggerator, owned by Big Chief Racing, LLC, Head of Plains Partners LLC, Rocker O Ranch, LLC et al. and trained by Keith Desormeaux, with $2,598,000, Songbird, owned by Fox Hill Farms and trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, with $2,210,000, Highland Reel (Ire) with $2,200,000, California Chrome (North American earnings) with $2,090,000, Flintshire (GB) with $2,000,000, Gun Runner with $1,970,880, Beholder, owned by Spendthrift Farm and trained by Richard Mandella, with $1,720,000 and Tourist with $1,633,750.
The top ten trainers list included California-based conditioners Bob Baffert, 4th with earnings of $15,864,326, Doug O’Neill, 7th with earnings of $10,330,364, and Jerry Hollendorfer, 9th with earnings of $9,775,311.
And congratulations to California owner Reddam Racing LLC, who finished third in the 2016 owner standings with 42 wins from 285 starts and earnings of $7,201,751.
