Last Chance to Register for TOC’s Conformation Clinic at Santa Anita!

TOC to Host FREE Conformation Clinic Saturday, May 12th

Arcadia, Calif. – TOC will partner with trainers Matt Chew and Philip D’Amato to offer a FREE “Conformation Clinic” at Santa Anita on Saturday, May 12. Attendees will also have the chance to stop by Bob Baffert’s barn. The informal workshop is intended to help participants develop an “eye” for a horse. Attendees will visit the trainers’ barns, where they will view a variety of horses to identify their conformation strengths and weaknesses.

A third-generation horseman, Chew has been training since 1982 and regularly runs horses at Santa Anita, Del Mar, and Golden Gate. He trained Singing Kitty, winner of the $200,000 California Cup Oaks. He designs a training regimen unique to each horse, assessing individual characteristics and building on their strengths. He has participated in many TOC seminars over the years and has developed a very professional presentation.

D’Amato started his racing career in Kentucky, then moved to Southern California where he worked 10 years as assistant to trainer Mike Mitchell. He took over the barn when Mitchell retired in 2014, and has since trained an impressive number of stakes winners. He has saddled stars such as Obviously, Street Fancy, Midnight Storm, Big John B, Fanticola and Bright Thoughts. Most recently he won the Gr. 2 Mathis Brothers Mile and Gr. 1 Kilroe Mile with Bowies Hero, the Gr. 2 Buena Vista S. with Fault, and the California Distaff H. with Barbara Beatrice.

Special Bonus Feature – Our first stop will be a special visit to the barn of Bob Baffert, winner of last week’s Kentucky Derby with Justify. Be sure to arrive early for check-in to catch Baffert’s quick barn tour.

The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Top O’ The Stretch just past Clockers’ Corner at Santa Anita Park. Santa Anita Park is located at 285 W. Huntington Dr., Arcadia, CA 91007. Since the workshops will take place in the stable area, suitable footwear is recommended. Although it is free and open to the public, reservations are recommended. Registration closes at 4:00 p.m. (PST) on Friday, May 11.
