Dear TOC members,
We will be hosting a TOC members conference call this Saturday, March 14, at 11:00 a.m. to update the members on a number of critical issues.
Participating on the call will be TOC Chairman Nick Alexander, TOC Director Gary Fenton, Terry Lovingier who is a TOC Director as well as Chairman of the CTBA, and Greg Avioli, TOC President and CEO. Joining them will be Craig Fravel of Santa Anita, Alan Balch of CTT, and Cliff Goodrich of the CTHF. Among the topics for discussion will be:
- Today’s announcement regarding Golden Gate Fields and Santa Anita running without fans in attendance for the foreseeable future
- Contingency planning regarding horses and backstretch personnel at racetracks and licensed auxiliary facilities in the event of further spread of the Coronavirus
- The official CHRB report on 2019 horse fatalities at Santa Anita released earlier this week
- The Southern District of New York’s 44-page indictment which included allegations of a systematic pattern of illegal drugging and horse abuse against two high profile trainers and multiple veterinarians.
With regard to racing at Santa Anita and Golden Gate Fields, the situation remains fluid. For now the Stronach Group has indicated that beginning tomorrow licensed owners will be admitted to the racetrack on race days to watch their horses compete and there will be no food or beverage available at either track.
We are awaiting further details regarding issues such as the number of non-licensed family members or guests, if any, who may also attend races, rules and procedures for attending morning works, etc.. We expect to have further information on these topics by Saturday.
For the next two days please remember to bring your CHRB license with you if you will be attending the races.
