TOC Announces Annual Owner Awards

Arcadia, Calif. – The Thoroughbred Owners of California (TOC) has announced the winners of its 2024 statistical awards for leading California owners. For the fourth consecutive year, Reddam Racing was leading owner in total purse earnings and topped the standings for most California starts. Hronis Racing LLC led all owners by number of California wins; and leading owner honor for most California stakes wins was shared in a two-way tie by Cuyathy LLC andthe partnership of Sondereker Racing, Eric Kruljac, Robert Fetkin and Richard Thornburgh.

Reddam Racing runners earned a total of $2,031,442 in California last year, with 32 wins from 252 starts. Multiple stakes winner Stay and Scam won the Irish O’Brien and Fran’s Valentine stakes at Santa Anita. Bred by Reddam and trained by Doug O’Neill, Stay and Scam was also second in the Grade 3 Wilshire S. and third in the Grade 3 Royal Heroine S. Reddam’s other stakes placed runners included Don’t Fight the Fed (2nd in the E.B. Johnston S.), Barely Functional (2nd in the Crystal Water S.), Look Forward (2nd in the Starlet S.), Stolen Treasure (2nd in the California Chrome Cal Cup Derby), and Accidental Genius (3rd in the Bay Meadows Juvenile S.).

Hronis Racing had 35 wins from 142 California starts, for total earnings of $1,720,310. Their top runners included Sweet Life S. winner Antifona; Tapalo, winner of the Lazaro Barrera S.; and Full Serrrano, who ran second in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic on his way to a victory in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. Their other top runners included Heart Headed, Anywho, Mclaren Vale, Carmen Miranda, and Island Cruiser.

Cuyathy LLC and the partnership of Sondereker Racing, Kruljac, Fetkin, and Thornburgh each had an impressive five stakes wins in 2024. Cuyathy LLC’s top runners included Johannes, winner of the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile, the Grade 2 City of Hope Mile, the Grade 2 Eddie Read S., the Grade 2 San Gabriel S., and the Grade 3 American S. Their other runners included Sea Runner (third in the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf S.) and Sea Dancer. The top earner for Sondereker Racing, Kruljac, Fetkin and Thornburg was dominant California sprinter The Chosen Vron, winner of the Grade 1 Bing Crosby Stakes at Del Mar and the San Carlos (Grade 3), Kona Gold, Thor’s Echo, and Don Valpredo California Cup Sprint stakes at Santa Anita.
