Dear TOC Members,
Nominations for the 2024 Ballot closed on March 1 with six candidates for six open positions. As a result, we followed the previously established TOC procedure (and Section 7522 of the California Nonprofit Mutual Benefit Corporation Law), and the TOC Board declared the six candidates that were nominated and qualified as having been elected without the vote of the full membership. This has the added benefit of saving the organization approximately $18,000 in election expenses.
I am pleased to announce the election of six directors, five of which are for a three-year term and one for a one-year term:
- Mark Glatt – A well-known California owner and trainer with more than 1200 victories and earnings of over $46 million.
- Ty Green – An attorney based in San Luis Obispo, he is a longtime owner/breeder and races under the name of SLO Racing. He also serves on the board of the CTBA.
- Ryan Hanson – First elected to the board in 2020 as an owner/trainer member, he currently serves on the TOC Racing Affairs Committee and Executive Committee.
- John Harris – Owner of Harris Farms and a legendary California owner/breeder. A former CHRB commissioner, he also serves on the board of the CTBA. As his appointment filled the vacancy left by the resignation of Johnny Taboada, Harris is elected for the remaining one-year term.
- Stephanie Hronis – First appointed to the TOC Board in September, 2020, she also serves on the TOBA Board of Trustees and is a founding member of the Horse Racing Women’s Summit (HRWS). She is on the TOC Finance Committee, Racing Affairs Committee and chairs the Owner Relations/Industry committee.
- Andy Mathis – Based in Northern California, he was 2021 California Trainer of the Year. He has won nearly 800 races in his career.
These Directors will join TOC Board members Nick Alexander, Gary Barber, Joe Ciaglia, Tim Cohen, Matthew Dohman, Gary Fenton, Bob Liewald, Terry Lovingier, and Samantha Siegel in comprising our 2024-25 Board of Directors.
The new board will be seated on July 1, 2024. As an incoming board member, Mark Glatt is invited to attend meetings as a non-voting observer. As always, please feel free to email me with any questions at bnader@toconline.com.
